A thirteen year old programmer going by the nickname Arix released the first ever iPod Touch automated jailbreak program, called iJailBreak.
iJailBreak is a hack that will remove the read-only mode set by Apple, which will allow you to run native third party games and programs on the device.
The only user interaction required is for you to restart the iPod Touch. Works on Macintel OS X Tiger. PPC version is in the works. This program won’t work on Windows machines.
iJailBreak was based on Niacin and Dre’s Safari TIFF hack and iPHUC’s source.

To all those concerned with iPod Touch models’ future: analysts from iSuppli predict that Apple will have sold 66 million units of iPod Touch and iPod Nano models within 2 years.
According to iSuppli’s projections, Apple will ship 20 million iPods of these two models by the end of the year.
At the same time, next year the same iSuppli expects an increase in demand for these models, yielding additional 40 million sold units for Apple in 2008.
iPod Touch is expected to be a hot selling item this holidays season, largely in part due to the fact that iPhone provided sufficient hype for touchscreen technology. Considering that not everyone wants to trade in his current phone for a contract with ATT, iPod Touch could become very popular as an alternative to the iPhone or an older generation iPod.

Apple released the new WebApps library/catalog today, as was earlier reported by iPhone World, adding a new listing of web apps optimized for the iPod Touch and iPhone. And though people were hoping for added support for 3rd party apps, or a wider welcome to them at the least, nothing new of the sort came out.
The new WebApps update is apparently just a listing, nothing more, of iPod Touch and iPhone optimized web-based apps. There is no added support for native apps that work outside the Safari browser. Apple’s iPodTouch/iPhone WebApps listing is located at www.apple.com/webapps.

Among several iPod cases, the luxurious leather goods manufacturer AB Sutton has started selling new ’simple slip’ cases for the Apple iPod Touch.
This iPod Touch case features a leather exterior and a small band to organize the headphone cable, as well as a slide-in design. Also included by choice is a monogram. AB Sutton charges $48 for the solid case, or $68 for a monogrammed case.
There are several more models of cases available for all sorts of Apple iPod steppings, including the iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, and the iPhone.

Although Apple took extreme measures to lock out third party iPhone/iPod touch native programmers with the recent firmware v1.1.1, the #iPhone-dev iPhone programmer-hackers’ community has already cracked the “almost unbreakable” iPod Touch OSX file system; though it remains to be seen whether these iPod Touch jailbreak hacks work fully or not.
As it was mentioned before, Apple iPod Touch is essentially based on the same hardware and can run the same third party native programs as the Apple iPhone, but the recent iPod Touch firmware upgrade took this ability away.
After hundreds of hours of work invested into this, #iphone-dev folks came up with two ways to jailbreak the v1.1.1 firmware iPod Touch devices:
#1: (earlier released hack) is done via a TIFF image file exploit in current Safari version (and people don’t like hackers for some reason….). This was tested and proved to be working with Apple iPod Touch.
#2: (latest hack) is via a native program that one needs to upload onto his iPod Touch. We could not independently confirm whether this method works with all iPod Touch devices.
